Program description - January 2027

Keep buildings comfortable and safe with Conestoga's Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician diploma.

If you're a hands-on high school graduate who wants a career in a fast-paced and evolving industry focused on comfort, safety and sustainability, Conestoga's two-year Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician diploma is your path to success. This program prepares students for in-demand roles in residential, commercial and industrial settings, including homes, hospitals, supermarkets and green buildings.

You'll train in Conestoga's new state-of-the-art Skilled Trades Centre, gaining practical experience in a fully equipped HRAC shop. The program covers heating, cooling and refrigeration systems, along with foundational training in natural gas and electrical systems. Graduates may qualify to write the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) G3 and G2 Gas Technician exams and may be exempt from Level 1 of 313A and 313D trade school, giving you a head start toward apprenticeship and employment.

What you'll learn

  • Installation and maintenance of heating, refrigeration and air conditioning systems
  • Fundamentals of natural gas and electrical systems
  • Hands-on training in Conestoga's HRAC shop
  • Safety standards and applications of green technologies
  • Preparation for TSSA G3 and G2 Gas Technician exams

Career pathways

  • HVAC technician in residential, commercial or industrial settings
  • Apprenticeship in 313A (refrigeration and air conditioning systems mechanic) or 313D (residential air conditioning systems mechanic)
  • Roles in building maintenance, energy systems and environmental control

  • This is a highly competitive program. Apply by February 1 (for September), July 15 (for January) and Nov 1 (for May). See oversubscribed programs for more information.
  • Students living outside of Ontario are not eligible to apply.
